Things can get tough. As a founder, former academic, and human, you could be experiencing a nexus of mental and emotional strains. This list is intended to help give more options to start the process of navigating different types of support. This is a navigation tool, not a replacement for professional advice or diagnosis. We hope these resources make professional options transparent and easy to find.
As a Berkeley Lab or Activate fellow, you can apply your healthcare stipend to a variety of insurance options. If you're not sure where to start, it might be helpful to take a self-assessment – we've listed a few in the Assessments / Apps section below.
Assessments / Apps
Kaiser launched Find Your Words a national depression awareness campaign with self-assessments and tools to find support.
Headspace and Calm are apps that can facilitate sleep, meditation, and stress reduction.
Self-compassion exercises and meditations are available for download.
One-on-One Outlets
If you're looking for a therapist, the TherapyDen website is a good place to start – letting you choose where you'd like to have appointments and what you want to work on.
Berkeley Therapy Institute offers 1:1 outpatient psychotherapy. Check for insurance coverage here.
UCSF's Adult Outpatient Program provides a broad range of services tailored to each person during an initial consultation.
Kaiser Permanente members can call the San Francisco and East Bay psychiatric departments directly, without a referral.
Talkspace matches users with a licensed therapist for online sessions.
Group Settings
TogetherAll provides a safe group support network.
One Medical offers a community-based approach to addressing mild to moderate depression. Sessions are held in downtown San Francisco and One Medical accepts a variety of insurance providers.
UCSF's Adult Psychiatric Clinic offers mindfulness based cognitive group therapy for depression.
